You look at me and we're happy
no words needed
sometimes words
don't need to leave my sure lips
for us to meet
sometimes its more simple
than 1 2 3
so it seems
sometimes kneeling
and closing my eyes
is all I need to recenter my spirit
sometimes silence
when I sit at your feet
is more intimate communion
then uttering one syllable
sometimes gazing
into your calm ocean ocean eyes
is more comfort than striving
sometimes all my prayers
can also be
I look at you
and You look at me
and we're happy.Heart Call:
I learned about contemplative prayer around 2024, when I read Practicing the Way by John Mark Comer. It changed my life. And the last stanza is a direct quote from the book.
Before that, prayer for me was mostly petition, intercession, or devotional prayer. But contemplative prayer is different. It’s less about talking and more about sitting in God’s presence.
That space looks different for everyone. Some people walk, some work out, some sit at home. For me, it’s my car, because there are fewer distractions and it feels safe, almost like a moving altar. It’s about finding a place where your mind can slow down, where your to-do list fades, and you can simply focus on Him.
Sometimes you kneel, sometimes you close your eyes, sometimes you just sit. Your attention will drift, and that’s normal, but you gently bring it back to Him again and again. It looks different for everyone. You just have to find what helps you focus, because the moment you find an altar, a space that prepares your heart, everything begins to shift.
Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
How do you intentionally set up a time to pray throughout your day?
This week, I challenge you with this. Find an altar, a place you can just rest in God’s presence.
