when work is too much...
that you never have enough hours in the day
nothing today is new nothing tomorrow will be new we wake we eat we go to work we eat again and then we sleep every single day the same routine we toil under the sun and we fight against the work because it’s never done it’s so hard it seems that you never have enough hours in the day if only i could get everything done if we only could finish the million things after we've pressed the start button but again nothing is new under the sun so why not I wonder stop one day and just rest even if the work is not done even if the responsibilities keep piling up nothing is new under the sun so why not flip the order first fruits give it back to the Father nothing is new under the sun there will always be something new to toil against.
Heart Call:
One of the things I realized when I was back in school trying to finish my degree is that there would always be something to do. There would always be something fighting for my time.
And then one day I decided to flip the order. I had an exam I was supposed to study for, but instead I said, you know what, I’m going to go serve at this Thanksgiving outreach my church was having. I was giving God the first fruits of my weekend.
Even though I had given away 3 hours of my time, the overwhelm that I felt went down. I learned that science is always trying to catch up with the Bible, like my pastor always says. They even have a name for it helper’s high.
That day, I had one of the most productive study sessions I ever had, just because I felt lighter.
And that became something I chose to live by, giving God the first fruits of my weekends, Sunday after Sunday, or Saturday after Saturday.
Because nothing is new under the sun. We will always have more work.
But it is in giving that we receive. It is in laying something down that we are blessed.
What do people get for all the toil and anxious striving with which they labor under the sun?
All their days their work is grief and pain; even at night their minds do not rest. — (Ecclesiastes 2:22–23)
what would it look like for you to give God the first fruits of your weekend, even if your to-do list and your work are piling up?
do you make time to truly rest — being quiet with your thoughts and with God?
